In 1936, the L.S. Ayres Department Store installed a 10,000-pound, 8-foot-tall clock at the southwest corner of Meridian and Washington Streets. Brose Partington Studio repaired the clock’s case, as well as removed lacquer from and polished the cherub that adorns the timepiece during the Christmas season.
